MISS LA AND MISS CALABASAS BEAUTY PAGEANT
Hello Loves! Today’s post is all about the Miss LA and Miss Calabasas Beauty Pageant makeup artist experience. Today, I had the pleasure of doing makeup and hair for contestants of the Miss LA and Miss Calabasas Beauty Pageant. April Love, owner of and master educator at April Pro Love Makeup Academy and invited me to the event. I can’t wait to tell you all about my fabulous experience doing pageant makeup and hair!
Miss LA and Miss Calabasas Beauty Pageant
Two lead artists and ten makeup artists and I all showed up in beautiful Malibu to beautify pageant contestants. Like a true makeup team, we worked together to get the many pageant contestants ready quickly. Lindsey and Yvette were the lead artists. They helped direct the team, guide our makeup application and hair styling, and assign pageant contestants to each artist. Even though there was what could have been an overwhelming amount of contestants to beautify, the makeup artists and I all worked together, to help the day go smoothly.
I expected to do only makeup, but at the last minute was asked to do hair because of the high demand for hair styling. Due to my background in hair styling, I happily helped. I styled hair as another artist applied makeup on the same Miss LA candidate.
For any and every makeup artist reading this post, I highly encourage you to learn to style hair if you haven’t already. Most people think you need a license to style hair. That’s not necessarily true. As a licensed professional, I will explain: a license is required to dye, cut, or perm hair. A license is not required to curl it, flat iron it, or do an up-do. So, if you’re interested in becoming a more marketable artist, interested in more opportunities for work, or interested in being a “double-threat,” I suggest you take April Love Pro Makeup Academy’s Hair Class! Perfect for the makeup artist who wants to be able to beautify every client and meet every gig’s demands, this class will teach you how to great high fashion hair looks that are truly artistic. Additionally, the class comes with the kit necessary to start working immediately upon graduating! You can sign up for the hair design class here. The best part? When you are a graduate of the academy, April herself contacts you personally for makeup gigs. She invited me to work today’s pageant.
Please contact the academy with any questions about starting your career in the beauty industry.
