MASTERY COURSE EXPERIENCE
Hello Loves! In today’s post, I want to share my Mastery Course Experience with you all. I am proud to say I enrolled in the first Mastery Course offered at April Love Pro Makeup Academy. As a makeup artist and esthetician, I wanted a course that would stimulate me, inspire me, and challenge me. More than halfway through this course, I must say, this class offers all this and more! I feel I am developing further as an artist. I’m a so excited to share my mastery course experience with you all.
Mastery Course Experience
Week one was wild! Our instructor Stephen Dimmick challenged us to create two beauty looks: catalogue beauty and high fashion…with only 5 products from our makeup kits! It was a challenge I could have never imagined. It really pushed me out of my comfort zone. It even frustrated me. But at the end of the challenge. I was so proud of myself for creating both looks! The class definitely made me rethink what I keep in my kit, and what to add to my kit.
Week two was full of as much growth and stimulation. We had to recreate a high-fashion look Stephen Dimmick demonstrated for us. The look had to be an exact replication. He said we might have to endure such a task at certain fashion shows, so it was a great learning experience. Here’s a picture of the look.
In the next class, Stephen (check out his Instagram) wanted us to create something that was “ugly” and beautiful at the same time. This was meant to show us to find beauty in everything, even things we might not find beautiful at first. He also wanted us to create expression on the face with makeup alone. Here’s a photo of his model that day.
After that class, we explored body art with Kelly Jurado! Exploring this new medium of makeup and beauty completely opened my eyes to new creativity. Her super artistic approach to class is so inspiring. The first body art class explored brush stroke techniques. In the next, we learned how to make feminine designs like flowers, splatter, and leopard. Here’s a photo of Kelly’s demo.
I’m writing this blog just as the next class is starting up, and I’m so excited to learn more!
Instructors Stephen Dimmick and Kelly Jurado have pushed me out of my comfort zone with makeup. Their years of experience in the industry allows them to quickly spot my strengths and weaknesses. This allows them to guide my art in a very warm but effective way. From day one, class has challenged my kit, my art, and what I can do with it. I cannot wait to update you all with more of my mastery course experience after graduation!
